公園でチェス、めちゃいいじゃないですかあ

Playing chess in the park. Such a good scenery.

別にチェスクラブに行かなくても、その場であった人と一局交える。良いですよね。

You can play chess with person who is here without going to a chess club.

でもさらに良いのは、ホームレスの人も楽しんでいたことですね。ていうか、机の片側はほぼホームレスのおじさんたちでした。

チェス好きのホームレスも無料で楽しめる、なんか微笑ましいし、当然のことですよね。

Even better, there were many homeless people enjoying chess. Almost half of the players were homeless people.

It seemed nice that everyone can enjoy chess for free.

ただ、ホームレスがめちゃくちゃ多い！！！！NYに来て驚いたことの一つです。

どこに行っても、コップを持ってチップを求めている人を至るところでお見受けします。特にNYの地下鉄は24時間営業なので絶好のシェルターとなり、電車にもたくさんのホームレスがいらっしゃいます

however surprising thing was the number of homeless people in NYC.

We could see people with cups begging for money anywhere in NYC, especially in a subway where is best shelter for them because of 24-hour operation.

どうやら東京の30倍も人口に占めるホームレスの割合が多いそうです。

Evidently, the percentage of homeless people in the population of NYC is 30 times higher than in Tokyo.

さらに驚くことに、女性のホームレスが普通に存在しているのです。日本だとなかなか見ませんね。物価が世界一のNY、暮らしていくのも一苦労です。

世界最大の格差社会を肌で感じます。

Even more surprisingly, female homeless people are common. It is very rare to see this in Japan. Living in New York, where the cost of living is the highest in the world, is also a hardship.

I felt the world’s greatest social disparity firsthand.

車椅子ユーザ Wheelchair User

あるバーにいくと、ビリヤード台が置いてありました。客同士でプレイすることができます。

私も現地のお客さんとビリヤードを楽しんでいたところ、車椅子に乗った女性から対戦を申し込まれました。

I went to a bar and found a billiard table. Customers can play with each other.

I was enjoying a game of billiards with a local customer, and a woman in a wheelchair offered me a game.

初！車椅子の人とビリヤード。

It was my first time! Playing billiards with a person in a wheelchair.

どうやってプレイするのかなと思って見ていると、とても器用にやられるもんです。そのあとは他の客とも勝負していました。

その方は1人で来ていましたが、自由にバーに来て、好きなゲームをして、遊べる環境と雰囲気があるのは良きです。

I wondered how she would play, but she was very deft. She was playing with other customers after me.

She came alone, and I found that it was nice to have an environment and atmosphere where people can freely come to the bar, play whatever games they want and have fun.

別の日、車椅子に関して衝撃の光景を目にしました。

自分の最寄りの地下鉄の駅にはエレベーターがなく、車椅子に人が座ったまま、大柄の男性4人が車椅子ごと持ちあげて駅の階段を登っていたのです。

Another day, I saw a shocking sight regarding wheelchairs.

The subway station nearest to me had no elevator. Four men were lifting a wheelchair with a person in up the station stairs.

誰かが呼びかけて、すぐに地下鉄から降りてきたお客さんが集まり、車椅子を持ち上げ移動させてました。

一見優しい光景かなと思いましたが、危なすぎる！笑

そして、この駅エレベーターとかエスカレーターとかないんだ、とその日初めて気づきました。

Someone called out to him, and soon the guests coming down from the subway gathered around and lifted and moved the wheelchair.

At first glance I thought it was a friendly scene, but it was too dangerous!!!!

And then I realized that there are no elevators or escalators in this station.

彼は駅にエレベータがあると思っていたのか、、、わかりません。

Did he think there was an elevator in the station, I didn’t know though.
