ニューヨークには２０１３年に1年間滞在していましたが、それ以来10年ぶりに凱旋です。
１０年ぶりのNYC、どう変わっているのか、楽しみ！
I spent a year in NY in 2013 and am returning for the first time in 10 years.
I am looking forward to seeing how things have changed!

ニューアーク・リバティ国際空港（NYの隣のニュージャージー州の空港）に降り立ちます。
This is Newark Liberty Airport in New Jersey, a neighboring state to NY.

コロナ禍2022年では、ガラガラでの座席3つを使ってセルフファーストクラスベッドで寝ていた日米便ですが、
さすがに2023年は、客足は回復していたようです。
In the Corona situation in 2022, the Japan-America flight was so vacant and I made a self first class bed with 3 economy seats.
In 2023, passenger traffic seemed to have recovered.
ニュージャージーからマンハッタンに電車で向かいます。
9月下旬でした、NYCは肌寒い、
外気14℃なのに電車は冷房ガンガン。おかしいだろ！
Headed to Manhattan from New Jersey by train! It was chilly in late September in NY.
The air conditioner was ON in the train even though the outside temperature was 14 ℃.
That was crazy.
そして秋のNYにサンダルで行くのはやめましょう。寒くて足先がちぎれます。
久しぶりに寒国のこの感じを体感！
Please don’t wear sandals to NY in the fall. It is too cold that your toes break off.
It has been a while since I experienced this nostalgic feeling of a cold country.

さあマンハッタンへGO！ウォール街に新しくビルが立ち並んで、だいぶ観光名所みたくなっていました。

So, this is Manhattan! There were new buildings on Wall Street, making it look more like a tourist attraction.
Then, it’s Bud here!!!
、、、高い！！！これ千円超えます。
…OMG that was soooooooo expensive. It cost over 1,000 yen.
歴史的な円安の被害にぶちあたっています。
I have been faced with the damage of the yen’s historic depreciation.
水は、 How about the water…?

牛丼特盛食べれるてー
was over 500 yen. I can eat a special beef bowl in Japan with 500 yen.
まあ、気にせず楽しんでいきましょう。。

こういうオシャレなの発見。ニューヨークっぽいですね。
Look these fashionable things, it looks like “New York”.
そもそも今回ニューヨークを訪れたのは他でもない、
友人の画家・イラストレーターの個展の応援です！ニューヨーク、マンハッタン個展なんて凄いですよね。現地ファンがこんなにも駆けつけていました！！すげええ大盛況すぎる
First, what brought me to NY this time was nothing else,
MY friend’s private exhibition!! He held a solo art exhibition in Manhattan, what a great thing!!! So many local fans came to this show.
元々画家のファンだったアメリカ人はもちろん楽しんでいましたが、
町ブラからふらっと入ってきた一般人が1000ドルを超える作品をサクッと買っていくところ、さすがアメリカ！と感じました。
I was impressed that not only originally fans but a person who wandered in bought his work for more than $1,000!!! I felt that THIS IS THE U.S.!
アーティストの実力も高いし、一般のお客さんもアートを見る目が確かだし、芸術にお金を使うことを厭わないこういうアート文化はアメリカのすごいところだと肌で感じました。
The artists are highly skilled, and the visitors have a good sense of art.
I felt that this kind of culture, where people are willing to spend money on art, is a great thing in the U.S.
エンタメ力 Entertainment
なぜ以前１年住んでいた時に行ってないのでしょうか、「アメリカ自然史博物館」に行きました！
Why didn’t I go to the “American Museum of Natural History” when I lived there for a year before??
観光客らしく、観光してるわっ。入場は、事前オンライン予約→QRコード提示がスムーズです。
I was definitely sightseeing like a tourist.
Admission is smooth if you make an online reservation in advance and present the QR code in the entrance.
地球上の生物の歴史全てが貯蔵されているような勢いで、規模デカすぎる。。。。
全て見て回るのには1週間はかかります。
The scale was extremely big, toooo big as if the entire history of life on earth is stored.
It would take a week just to see everything.
魅せ方が素晴らしい。
左は地球内部のマントルの動き、はたまた右は細胞内部のDNA構造らしいです。こういう展示にも凄腕のアーティストが絡んでいるのだろうなあ、、
The exhibit was wonderful. The left side is the movement of the mantles inside the earth, and the right side is the DNA structure inside a cell.
I wonder if there are some talented artists involved in this kind of exhibition.
そしてブロードウェイも観に行きました！
ライオンキングやオペラ座の怪人など、、いくつか観覧したことはありますが、今回はなんと、、
Then, enjoyed Broadway!!
I’ve seen “The Lion King”, “Phantom of the Opera”, and a few others,
but this time….
BTTF！！！
え！？やってたの！？？？ ていうかミュージカルであの世界観表現できるの？！？？
Oh wow! I didn’t know this. Can you express that worldview in a musical?!
ミュージカル版BTTFですが、2023年8月に初演とのことです。数十年続くミュージカルもある中でかなりの新作です
我々は9月に観覧しました。超タイムリーでラッキー！！
This premiered in August 2023. It’s a fairly new musical.
We saw the show in September, super timely and lucky.
劇場入るやいなや、大興奮。
いわゆるクラシックな古き良き劇場が現代のサイエンティフィックな感じに魔改造されている！
The moment we entered the theater, I was sooooo excited!
The so-called classic old theater has been remodeled to look modern and scientific!
あのシーンもこのシーンも映画に忠実にミュージカル調にうまくアレンジされている！さらには映画にはなかったシーンも加わり、歌いまくりの3時間弱！！
Every scene was well arranged in a musical style faithful to the movie!
What’s more, scenes that were not in the movie were added!! Singing for about 3 hours!
最高の体験をありがとう。。

Walking through town at night, I heard the earth shaking and something huge I was coming toward me. T,,,tank?!
と思ったら、ゴミ収集車でした。
高さも長さも日本のそれの2倍はゆうに超えています。
No, it was a garbage truck. It was more than twice as tall and long as those in Japan.

2020年に完成したThe Edgeという高すぎるビル、めっちゃEdge。。。
This is “The Edge” which is an overly tall building completed in 2020.
西半球では最も高い位置にある展望台らしいです。
先にあるエンパイアステートビルを見下ろしています。。
This Is the highest observation deck in the Western Hemisphere.
We can look down on the Empire State Building ahead.

ブルックリンといえばクラフトビール！たくさんの有名な醸造所があります。
Brooklyn is all about craft beer! There are many well-known breweries.

Low quality of infrastructure
地下鉄は変わらんなーーーーーー！10年で全く変わってない！
Though,,, no change in the subway. Absolutely same in 10 years!!
日本はホームドアの設置や電車の外装内装デザインが変わったりしてますが、
NYは電車は汚いし、駅ボロボロ、エスカレーターもエレベーターもない、下水の臭いに囲まれ、ネズミさんはたくさん。。
Japan subway is evolving with the installation of platform doors and changes in train exterior and interior design,
though,, NY subway is still dirty, the stations are in shambles, no escalators or elevators, many rats, sewage smell,,,
特にエレベーター問題の改善して無さにはとっても驚きました。
especially, I was shocked by the lack of improvement in the elevator problem.
地下鉄の駅、エレベーターはある程度大きな駅にしかありません。
Surprisingly, we only have elevators in some lager subway stations.
この車いすマークが着いた駅だけ。。こんなにあって2駅だけ？！
Elevators are only available at the stations marked with this wheelchair symbol. ONLY two stations in all those places??
↑こちらで書いてますが、車椅子の人は同じ電車の力自慢（他人）に担いでもらい階段を登っていくのです。。。。
もう令和ですよ、AIが工業品を作ったり、福祉で活躍したり、もはや芸術作品も作る時代ですよ、、、、ほんと信じられない。

As I wrote here, a person in a wheelchair was carried up the stairs by strangers on the same train.
It’s already 2023, the age when AI makes industrial products and even creates works of art… it’s really unbelievable.
問題意識はあるようで、なぜこんなに地下鉄が発展しないかをまとめている記事がありました。
There seemed to be an awareness of the problem, and there was an article that summarized why the subway systems has not developed so well.
1940年に経営破綻状態の民間からニューヨーク市が地下鉄を買取って以降、80年以上も大規模改築が行われていないようです。通りでボロい！
主な理由は、コストが高すぎるから。維持費だけで莫大なコストがかかるらしいですね。これは今後も変わらなそうですねーーーーー
There has been no major renovation for more than 80 years since NYC purchased the subway from a bankrupt private company in 1940. That’s why!!
The main reason was that the cost of maintenance was too high. So, this is not likely to change in the future.
改札がクレジットカードタッチで使えるようになってたのは唯一の変化でした。よかったです。
The only change was that the subway gates could be passed with a credit card touch. That was nice.
