NYの冬、極寒です。特に私がいた頃は大寒波の年で、体感温度-24℃の記録的な年でした。
Winter in NY was a disaster. Especially the year I lived in NY was record-breaking cold which was – 24 degree Celsius.
このくらいは普通に雪が積もります。 we had this amount of snow usually.
雪が降ったらかなりの確率で学校は休みになります。
And the school mostly close when we have snow.
というか、学校が休みにならなくても
大雪が降ったらまず誰も学校に来ません。先生も。
日本人だけが学校に集結する、というあるあるです。
Even if the school opened, nobody came in snowy day, of course including teachers.
Only Japanese students gathered.
寒い土地だから雪へのインフラ対策されているのかなと思うのですが、
雪が降ると一瞬で電車は止まります。
すると、なぜか電車を使ってない先生もすぐ学校を休むのです。
なんなら明日雪降りそうだから休むね、とご丁寧に事前報告してくれます。
I thought NYC should have sufficient facilities to deal with big snow at first. It was incorrect. Nothing was ready to snow.
The trains stopped first by snow, so teachers who use cars for commuting didn’t come, I don’t know why.
Moreover, they reported politely that not coming to school tomorrow because of snow forecast in advance.
だいぶ日本とは違いますねー、でもこっちの方が正しいのかも？？
移動自体危ないですもんね。安全性まで考慮しての包括的な判断に尊敬です。
This never happens in Japan. A teacher is the last person who takes a day-off because of snow. However, that was a right decision. Transportation in snowy days is dangerous. Living safe is important. I respect American’s appropriate decision.

やっぱこいつらルーズすぎる！！！と思った出来事があります。

ある日の学校の授業時、授業の時間になっても先生が来ないのです。
アメリカでは数分のディレイは特に気にならないので、そのまま待っていたのですが、待てども待てども先生が来ない！
One day in school, a teacher didn’t come on time. Actually it was not rare for us and keep waiting him. ..he never come…
心配になった生徒の1人がその先生(30代の男性)のFacebookを見たんです。
One student looked the male teacher’s Facebook page,
美女2人を両脇に抱え、「テキーラ！！」って書いた昨晩の投稿が。
and found his picture posted last night with two beautiful girls and shown “Tequila!!”.
。。。おい
これやん。飲み散らかしてるやん。
寝坊やん。

you definitely have hangover
いや珍しいよ〜？先生が酒で来ないのはファンキーすぎました。
That’s really rare. That was toooo funky for the teacher not coming to school by hangover.
完全に寝ているので、学校にも連絡が来ていなかったようです。あとで規定に則りすごく怒られた、らしいです。
He was completely sleeping at that time and having no contact with school. The school seemed to have given him big punishment.
でも、そうじゃない先生もいます。1分1秒時間に厳格な先生もいて、いろんな性格のタイプがいました。まとめるの大変そうだなあ、、だからアメリカでは法や契約が重視されるのか。
But some teachers don’t. There was a strict teacher at 1 minute 1 second time. There were various types of personality. It seems to be difficult to control them together,,, so is law and contracts important in the United States?
