ここはザ・ハイ・ライン、1980年代まで高架鉄道が走っていた線路を緑化して再開発した遊歩道です。
This is the High Line, a promenade that was redeveloped by greening the track that used to be an railroad line until the 1980s.
カラフルな線路がかわいい Colorful and pretty railroad.
緑あるところに桜もあるという感じで、意外にもNYCの至るところで桜を見ることができます。日本を感じられて心が落ち着きます。
You can see cherry blossoms all over the NYC and it is calming.
なぜNYで桜が？これは100年以上前、東京から3000本の桜の木が贈られニューヨーク市内に植えられたことが始まりでした。
3,000 cherry trees were sent from Tokyo over 100 years ago, and this is the reason why we can see the cherry blossoms in NYC.
当時アメリカと日本の間にいくつかの外交問題が存在しましたが、より良い関係を築くために行われたもので、日本の東京市長がアメリカ合衆国のワシントンD.C.にある国立モールに桜の木を贈ったのです。
It all started when the mayor of Tokyo sent cherry trees to the National Mall in Washington D.C. to try to get the diplomacy between the U.S. and Japan going in the right direction at the time.
アメリカ合衆国はその贈り物に感謝しニューヨーク市にも桜の木を植えたいと考え、1912年、ニューヨーク市長は東京都知事の正力松太郎に対してニューヨーク市に桜の木を贈るようお願いしたのです。
The U.S. was so grateful for the gift that it wanted to plant one in NYC, and in 1912 the mayor of NYC requested that the governor of Tokyo send cherry trees to NYC.
それ以来、ニューヨーク市では、日本の桜の花見祭り「お花見」にインスパイアされた桜祭りを開催しているようです。
Since then, NYC has been hosting a cherry blossom festival inspired by Japanese “Hanami”.
現地に行くまで知りませんでしたが、このように日本にまつわるイベントはいくつか大規模に開催されていました。
I didn’t know this until I went there, but there were several such Japan-related events on a large scale in NYC.

Those were “Attack on Titan” and ,,, “Kendo” which I never expected to meet here. They seemed to be Otaku of Japan culture, which made me very happy.

2007年から開催されているようで、日本の夏祭りのような出店が出ていたりステージでは日本の歌が歌われたり伝統芸能の踊りが披露されたりしていました。
This was an event called “JAPAN DAY” in Central Park that was a lot of fun.
This event has been held since 2007, and there were stalls like a Japanese summer festival, Japanese songs and traditional dances were performed on the stage.

2013年当時から韓国ドラマ、アイドルもすごく流行っていてアジアといえば韓国な雰囲気がNYにも漂っていて、日本好きのアメリカ人が減っている？？印象も受けていたのですが
大きなイベントが開かれると必ず日本発のアニメやら文化が登場し、その揺るがない人気を示してくれます。
I had the impression that the number of Americans who like Japan might be decreasing because of the immense popularity of Korean dramas and idols at the time of 2013 ,,,
Japanese anime and culture were always introduced at major events, showing their unwavering popularity!
これはThanksgiving dayのパレード、たくさんのバルーンとともにマンハッタンを縦断します
毎年11月に、Macy‘sという老舗百貨店が主催しているお祭りです。
This was the parade of “Thanks giving day”, which was organized by Macy’s every November and walks across Manhattan with many balloons.

流石の日本のエンタメ力！どこに行ってもドラゴンボールの話でコミュニケーションが弾みます。日本のアニメや漫画は異国、異文化間の人たちの橋渡し役を間違いなく担っていました
Too high Japanese entertainment power! My communication is encouraged by talking about “Dragon Ball” anywhere in the world. Anime is definitely a bridge between different countries and cultures!
