学校には、体育館みたいな広さの食堂があります。
ここに学生がたくさん集まって朝昼夜食べるのです。
There was a large cafeteria like gym in school.
All students have every meal there.
ビュッフェスタイルで、様々な料理の中から好きなものをシェフに伝えてとってもらいます。
It was buffet style, we can chose anything telling the chef what we want in various meals.
でもさ、これやばない？
but isn’t it too much?
全部茶色なんだけど、何選んでも一色。
めっちゃアメリカなのよねー
Only brown color we had as a choice. Every meal was same color.
This is America!
2日目くらいまではいいんだけど、
これ、、これ一年かあ、って思って一気に食欲無くしました。
Although it was acceptable until the second day,
I lost my appetite when I realize it would last for one year.
ほんとに監獄。
刑務所の方がまだレパートリーあるわ。
It was really a prison. Meals in prisons are richer in variety actually.
日々のストレスを解消する一つが食事だと思うのです。
しかし、唯一の頼みへの希望もアメリカ生活では打ち砕かれました。
However, the one way to relieve stress is a nice meal,
I couldn’t find a delicious meal in daily life in the U.S.
ただでさえ、性格の全く異なる外国人たちと接する中でストレスは爆発寸前なのに
癒しの時間となるべき食事の時間が、もっとも期待のない時間に。。。
不味すぎるのよねー全てが。
Daily school life in foreign country is basically so stressful. I was about to explode.
Lunch and dinner time was the least expected time, but originally it should be a healing time. It all was simply bad taste.
「え、こんなに美味しくないもの食べてるの？？」
福岡から東京に上京したときに感じた感覚と似たもの、
その何百倍も強烈な落胆を感じました。
そして、これ1年続くの？？？と。
Actually I couldn’t believe everyone eat such a bad taste every day.
I felt a strong disappointment that I had to bear this situation for a year.
そこで、
こっちの日本食食べたい！ということで
探したらあるやないか。。
So, I started to search Japanese restaurant in the U.S.,
then easily found.
日本食レストランが！
大好きなカツ丼が！！！
あるやないかああい。
I absolutely found Japanese restaurant!
Furthermore, there was “Katsu-don (Pork cutlet on rice)” which is my best meal.
学校があったのが、高級住宅街の街で、
ちゃんとした日本食（アメリカでは高級食）レストランが結構あるのです。
My school was located in luxury residential area.
There were many Japanese restaurant which is ranked high-class food in the U.S.
高級住宅街の日本食レストランということで、期待大！
ワクワクしながら早速向かう。
I extremely expected the taste of Japanese restaurant in a high-end town. Headed immediately.
迷わず
カツ丼を注文。
I ordered “Katsu-don” without any hesitation.
着丼！
served!
まさかの浅皿で出てきたよ。
もう浅すぎてたくわん溢れ出ちゃうよ。
Unbelievably, it was served in a shallow plate, usually it needed bowl as a plate.
なんか椎茸入ってるし。。。
And inappropriate ingredients were there…
これで25$なのよねえ。。。2500円以上。。。
The worst thing was the cost was more than 20$, despite 5$ In Japan.
カツ丼って、こうだよね。。
Katsu-don should be like this.
寄せる気ある？
I couldn’t feel the staff’s effort.
味は中学生男子が家庭科の授業で作るような感じ。
The taste was like the one made by junior high male students in school class.
食べ進んでたら、
As I continue to eat,
よゆーで卵の殻がinしてた
the egg shell was in it without apology.
ほんと雑だよなあ、、アメリカ。
How rough they cook U.S.!! The only thing you have to care is egg shell while cooking Katsu-don.
店内はめっちゃきらびやかなのよ？
In spite of gorgeous look of restaurant,
んー。。。なんで？
食に対する執着ない？、、、わけではないよなあ。
Why they don’t put effort for appearance and hygiene of dishes.
高級カツ丼＠高級住宅街
Expensive Katsu-don in luxury town,,,
期待した私がバカでした。
そして、今後の食生活がより一層暗礁に乗り上げるのでした。
It was a shallow idea for me to expect Japanese food in foreign country.
Then I understood how hard the days are waiting me.
