クスコ、どんな街なんでしょう
人口40万人、400㎢、熊本市くらいの広さですね。
Cusco, what kind of city is it?
It has a population of 400,000 people and 400㎢, which is about the size of Kumamoto City.
そして歴史的な都市で、インカ帝国の首都でした。
インカ帝国は大変大きな帝国でした。
最盛期はコロンビア、エクアドル、ペルー、ボリビア、チリまでを領土としていたようです。めちゃ縦長。

街中心部はレンガや石積み、石段があり歴史を感じさせます。

広場があって老若男女が集まっています。

なんか花火やってました。
Fireworks were shooting off in the plaza.

お祭りやてるやないかーい！超偶然でびっくり It was a big festival, which I hadn’t known!!!
ご覧の通り、そう、「太陽の祭り」です！！ インティライミといいます。
6月の冬至に行われる祭りで、この期間は毎日のように前夜祭カーニバルを行なっているらしい
As you can see, yes, it was “Inti Raymi”, the festival of the sun!
This festival is held in June, the winter solstice, however, they enjoy it every night day in this term. Haha

この街、標高3400mデス。ほぼ富士山です。
めっちゃクチャな山頂に40万人が今も住んでるんです。
This city is 3400 meters above sea level. It’s almost Mount Fuji.
400,000 people are still living on the top of the high mountain.

日本人が山頂アタックするかしないかの判断してるとこで、
クスコの子供たちは鬼ごっこしてます。
It’s the ninth station of Mt. Fuji.
Cuzco kids are playing tag while the Japanese are deciding whether or not to attack the summit.
山頂にこれだけ家が密集してるのすごくないですか？？

あとこの瓦がすごい。
びっしり家が立ち並んでいて、素焼き風の瓦が綺麗です。山頂で瓦作りすぎ！
Also, these roof tiles are amazing.
The houses are all closely lined up, and the plain tiles are beautiful. They made too many roof tiles at the top of the mountain!
そういえばクスコの空港もすごかったんですよ。

実はここクスコ、あの天空の遺跡マチュピチュよりも1000mほど標高が高いのです。

頭が痛い！！！
頭を万力で締め付けられているような感じ。

現地ではこんな時、「頭痛いんんだろお？^^」とコカ茶を勧められます。
コカ茶は、コカの葉を干したものを茶葉としたものです。

ちなみにコカの葉からはコカインの成分が抽出できます。

そして、何よりその覚醒作用が高山病の症状に効くと考えられていて、現地のお店でもよく食後に提供されました。

わたしは、お茶ではどうにもならないので、
信頼できそうな見た目の薬局で、
信頼できそうな現地薬剤師さんにおすすめされた高山病用の薬を飲んでみます。

効果、、ある、効果あるよ！
ただ、すぐに効果が切れる！
It …. worked!!! It actually worked!
but, it wore off quickly!
1日1錠と、スペイン語で書いてあるように見えたのですが
薬の効果が切れると自然と涙が出てくるくらい辛いので、ひたすら薬を飲みまくってました。
“One pill a day”, it seemed it said in Spanish.
When the effect of the medicine wore off, it was so painful that I naturally burst into tears, so I just kept taking the medicine.
それくらい高山病は耐えられない。。。
That’s how unbearable altitude sickness is.
