セルビアの首都、最大都市のベオグラードにて。
In Belgrade, the capital and largest city of Serbia.
Sveti Sava Temple 聖サヴァ大聖堂
セルビア正教会の創始者 聖サヴァ（Sveti Sava） への献堂
A church dedicated to Saint Sava, the founder of the Serbian Orthodox Church.
いや立派。 Magnificent.
そして中に入ると、、、大理石と金のモザイク。これまで見た教会史上最も大きい教会の内側
And when you step inside… Marble and golden mosaics. The biggest church interior I have ever seen.
バルカン半島最大級の正教会堂（高さ82m、金色ドーム）。
One of the largest Orthodox churches in the Balkans.
とにかく空間が広すぎる！支柱もない！！なんなんだこれは！？
なんでこんな立派なのができるの！？
Anyway, the space is just way too huge! And there are no pillars!!
How could they build something this amazing!?
この国、他の建物ほんとしょぼいのに。
Other buildings in this country are honestly pretty shabby, though.

この教会、 This church
1935年着工 → 2020年に完成
ずっと工事していたと。若干のサグラダ・ファミリア感。
Construction started in 1935 → and it was finally completed in 2020.
A little bit of a Sagrada Família vibe.
造り始めてから、幾重の戦争で建設が止まり、宗教力を弱めたい共産主義政権で止められ、ユーゴ紛争でも止まり、それでも建築を再開して造り続けたのがすごいポイント
After construction began, it was stopped again and again by wars, but they restarted construction and just kept building. That is the amazing part.
こんなに混沌とした支配の時代を乗り切ったのよねえ↓
It survived such a chaotic history of being ruled again and again.
まさに、これまで宗教的抑圧を受けたセルビア人にとって精神的復興の象徴。
For Serbian people who had experienced religious suppression, this church became a symbol of spiritual revival.
内部ドームには「キリスト昇天」の巨大モザイク（直径30m以上）。
Inside the dome is a huge mosaic of the Ascension of Christ, more than 30 meters in diameter.
どうやって描いたん！？天井の絵。金箔がすごい
How did they even make this!? A painting on the ceiling is SO MUCH GOLD.
とにかく礼拝者が途切れない。 Anyway, the worshippers just keep coming.

Then people form a line in front of this analogion, which has images of Christ and saints.
台の前まで来たら一人一人十字を切って、祈って、、、
When they reach the front, one by one, they make the sign of the cross, pray… then
チューしたあああああー！ KISSSSSSSSS!!
形だけかと思いきやこのガラス面にちゃんと唇を当てている！
They actually press their lips right onto the glass!
しかも、並んでる人が次々と！チュウ！
間接キスも甚だしい、3秒ごとにチュウされている！キリスト側も大変だよこれ息するまもなく
And the people in line just keep doing it, one after another! Kiss!
Someone kisses it every three seconds! Even Jesus must be exhausted. No time to breathe.

And they can SEE the person in front of them kissing it.
老若男女、 Young and old, men and women.
小汚いおじさんのあとに、Right after a slightly dirty-looking old man,
10代ブロンド美少女が、beautiful blonde teenage girl
一切の躊躇なく、同じ場所に唇を重ねる。puts her lips on exactly the same spot without hesitation.
駅のホームなら、互いに避けてすれ違うであろう二人が、
ここでは唇を介して交わる！！ 衝撃よ！！
Two people who would probably avoid each other on a train platform…
meet here through their lips!!
みんな全く同じ動きで、スムーズに、流れ作業。
ガラスにリップの跡すごいついてる、付きまくってる。
Everyone does exactly the same thing, smoothly, one after another.
There are lipstick marks all over the glass. Seriously, everywhere.
カトリックやプロテスタントとは違って、
正教会では、この聖画そのものが信仰生活の非常に重要な位置を占めるので、よくこのような光景が見られます。。。と。
Unlike Catholicism and Protestantism,
in the Orthodox Church, these sacred images themselves have a very important place in religious life, so scenes like this are quite common… apparently.

The power of religion is incredible. Foreigners sometimes have pretty different ideas about hygiene anyway, so maybe it’s not completely unbelievable, but still…
