シェムリアップの最狂宿／Popular Guesthouse in Siem Reap

カンボジアはシェムリアップ、宿はゲストハウスに泊まりました。

日本人バックパッカーがよく集まる宿がいくつかあります。

Stayed at guesthouse in Siem Reap, Cambodia.

There are a lot of guesthouses that many Japanese backpackers stay.

ぼくが宿泊したのは、

「ヤマトゲストハウス」

This time I stayed “Yamato guesthouse”.

当時のヤマトゲストハウス情報

場所：シェムリアップ市街地

アクセス：空港から30分くらい

設備：クーラーがある部屋ない部屋、ホットシャワーある部屋ない部屋

お金：ドミトリータイプは1泊2ドル（安すぎる、、、払ったっけな？）

従業員：若めのカンボジア人、やさしい。

Facilities: some air conditioning, some shower

Cost: 2 US$ / night

Staff: kind Cambodian

当時は確か満室だったのか、、先輩のベッドに潜り込み、宿としていました。

そんなこんなで、宿代激安2ドルなのに、それすら払ってなかった気が、、（宿帳的には、泊まってないし、、、、、、、、、）

I guess this guesthouse was full, so I got into the bed which my senior used.

Perhaps, I didn’t pay the room fee, even though it cost only 2 US$…

今思うと、GWでもないのにほぼ日本人で満室って、すごい人気。

It was not high season for Japanese, but Yamato was full wonderfully.

久しぶりに、そんな我らの「ヤマトゲストハウス」を検索してみると、

Searching for OUR Yamato on internet, I found the page,

「閉店」の文字が、、、

Google said “CLOSED”.

えぇぇ思い出の地が

painful for me,,, it was a place of my memories,

と思いましたが、

「BLANK guest house」と、名前を変えて営業していました。

なんか、オシャレに、キレイになっていました。

They had a new guesthouse though.  The better one.  Fashionable and clean.

BLANKのほうも、1泊3ドル〜らしいので、良心的な値段はいまも変わらず。

The accommodation fee is still 3 US$ / night.  Good news.

話は7年前に戻り、

宿に到着するやいなや誰もいなかったので街を散策、

少し栄えた市街地的なところまで歩いて行けました。

Go back to my story, I enjoyed central city little bit before meeting up my friend.

ここで現地通過をゲット！

Finally, I got local currency.

ちなみに、カンボジアではUS$が使えます。

現地通貨はリエル（Riel）といいます、1US＄なんと4000Riel、、いや多いわ

 US＄ is able to use in Cambodia.  Local currency is Riel.

カンボジア内戦時代に国外からUSドルが入ってきたらしいです。

共産主義政権のために強制的に現地通貨（リエル）が廃止になったり、

その後復活したりで、

なかなか信頼度の低い現地通貨だけでなく、信頼度の強力なUSドルも使われるようになったという経緯があります。

現在も2種類の通貨が使われているめずらしい国なんですねー。

 Cambodia is rare country that it has 2 currencies because of currency confidence.

US $ came into Cambodia during the Cambodia civil war,

Riel was abolished and revived because of regime change.

でも、ほぼほぼRielは使わなかったのを覚えています。

なんなら現地民がRiel持ってなくて、だいたい$を求められることが多かったり、、、

Actually, I used US＄ a lot.  Even local people needed US＄ more than Riel.

1ドル以下のお釣りはリエルで返ってきます。

The change lower than 1 US$ will be back with Riel.

そんなこんなで、

宿に帰ると、犬がじゃれ合っていました。

We have cute dogs when we went back to  the guesthouse.

この目。目おかしいし、

首噛んでるよね。

Looking closely, it was crazy dog.

Murderous eyes.

絶対「○犬病」なのよねー。。。

It’s definitely relies…

Yamato guesthouseでは

1階テラス部分がレストランになっていて、

お食事メニュー、つまみメニューなどなど沢山あり、宿のスタッフが常駐していていつでも頼めるのです。いつでも作ってくれます。

There was a restaurant on 1st floor, we can order many dishes in Yamato guesthouse.

We could order anything, anytime there.

どう考えても目が逝ってる犬が戯れあって（ころしあって）いるのを横目にお食事ができるのです。

We can enjoy eating and drinking with friends next to dogs killing each other.

またレストランでは従業員が素晴らしい。

Staff there is the best.

若いお兄ちゃんだったのですが、

英語も、そして日本語も少し話せていました。

The staff, young Cambodian, can speak English and Japanese a little.

こやつ賢いなあ、勉強えらいなあと感じながらひたすらビールをのむ。

Drinking beer with respecting him.

そして、ひたすら注文するつまみを作ってくれる。

ありがとう。

He was cooking and talking for us all day.  Appreciate.

暑い、、、

Crazy hot

6月でこんなに暑いのか、

Couldn’t believe that was in June.

クーラーのないテラスでひたすらビールです。

No air conditioning, but BEER was there.

いや、ハエが多い、

The problem was bunch of flies.

ハエが信じられない数います。

ハエが入らないようにビールを飲まない時はジョッキの口を手で塞ぎます。

Incredible number of flies were in the terrace.

So we have to close up the beer mug by hand all the time.

常に早押しクイズ大会状態

It was like a quiz competition.

ビールだけでなく、人間にもハエはたかります。

Not only beers, flies flew at man also.

腕、顔、まぶた、にハエが止まってくる、、、

Flies flew at arm, face and even eyelid.

顔に5匹くらいずっと止まってんだよなー。

There were about 5 flies on our face.

それでも現地民は動じない。

Local people didn’t move at all though.

共生だね。

They are living with flies.
