西アフリカの旅、
ナイジェリア🇳🇬からベナン🇧🇯に入国してきました。
Traveling in West Africa, entered Benin from Nigeria.
国境セメから市街地コトヌーまでのタクシー移動、交渉が大変すぎた話です。
This is a story which is about a crazy taxi negotiation heading to Cotonou from Seme, a border town.

最後まで賄賂賄賂うるさかったナイジェリアを出国してから約10m
木箱に座っている黒人がいました。
About 10m after leaving Nigeria, which was bribe bribe bribe noisy until the end,
there was a man sitting on a wooden box.
絶対また賄賂をもらうためだけのやつだと思いスルーしたら
周りの人にここここ！と言われる
ん？
I just went through here because it should be just a “BRIBE” place.
“Here!! Stop!!”. Then guys surrounding us said.
当の本人は何も言ってこない笑
戻ると、「パスポートとビザ」と言われる。
The man, who supposed to be an immigration officer, didn’t say anything.
After coming back, finally, he said “Passport and VISA”.
あ、ここ入管？
木箱に木の椅子二つ。制服姿の黒人ひとりと、ラフな格好の黒人おっちゃんひとり
入国スタンプが置かれてます。
Oh, here is an immigration?! There was only a guy with a uniform and a guy with rough clothes, with two wooden chairs and a wooden box.
An entry stamp was on the box.
なんと
ここがベナンの入国管理らしい。
Surprisingly, this is an immigration of Benin.
木箱の周りに人が集まる。
People gathered surrounding the wooden box.
ビジネスか旅行目的であろう周りの黒人達は1000ナイラ（正規の値段幾ばくか）払い、
払いっていうかその木箱にクシャッと置いて、
なんと自分で木箱に置かれている入国スタンプを取って、セルフでパスポートに押して通って行きます！！
Black guys, who were supposed to be travelers, paid or just put 1000 Naira on the box, and it was surprisingly, they put entry stamps on their passports by themselves.
ゆるい！！ゆるすぎるぞ！
入国を管理できてないぞ！！
What a low security!!! They have no control over immigration at all!
われわれはVISAを（すでにお金払って）取得しているので、ここではお金は不要でした。というか、、We’ve already taken care of the visa fees, so we’re all set. Or rather,,
ベナンに入ってから賄賂的なことは不要でした！！
No worries about any bribe payments in Benin!!!!!
改めてナイジェリア側が本当にうざく感じる！！！特に国境付近！

さて、入国管理を通過して、ついに
Passing the immigration, we finally,
Entered Benin!
ベナンに入ってもナイジェリア側からずっと着いてくるナイジェリア人が（まだいた…）、今度は国境から市街地までのタクシーを勧めてきます
After entering Benin, some guys were still sticking us from Nigeria side (wow still here). They next suggested us taxi heading to city center.
というか、こいつらナイジェリア人なのかベナン人なのかどっちなんだい？？国境を自由に行き来してやがる！
黒人も観光客は入国スタンプ押して入っているので、こやつらは本当に顔パス！？
By the way, who are you?! Which nationality do you have?? How come they could come and go through the border?!
Other black tourist men still needed entering stamp to crossing the border though.
ただ、まずは両替。
国境すぐ、真っ白の服を着たマフィアのボスみたいな人が両替してくれます。
As first, money exchange. Right next to the border, the boss-like black guy with all white clothes exchanged money.
もちろん、両替所のような店舗はない。
道路沿いに日向ぼっこ用の机一つと椅子があり、そこで換金します。
You know, there were no exchange office there, of course. There was one desk and chair which is for basically basking in the sun on the street.
めっちゃ青空換金だけど、ひったくるような人はいないです。
It sounds unsafe though, there were no person who tried to snatch.
ナイジェリア通貨のナイラと手持ちのユーロから、CFAフラン（セーファーフラン）へ。
端数は持ってかれますが、ぼったくりではなく、意外に納得のレートです。
Exchanging Naira and Euro to CFA, Benin currency.
That was actually not bad rate.
まあ当然なんだけど、国ごとに通貨変わるから換金めんどくせええ！
CFAはフランスの植民地だった西アフリカ諸国（ベナン、コートジボワール、ガボン、カメルーン、セネガル、、、など）で使用されていますが、イギリスの植民地だったナイジェリアは異なるので、ナイラはここで換金！
独立後も植民地時代の通貨を使い続けているベナンです。
Exchanging currency is one tough thing in traveling West Africa.
CFA is used in Benin, Ivory Coast, Gabon, ,etc. which was colonized by France, but Nigeria was a British colony, using different currency.
TAXI negotiation
さあ、国境から大都市コトヌーまで向かおう！
Heading to Cotonou, which is the largest city in Benin.
タクシー運転手、コトヌーまでは25000CFAを要求してくる。約7500円です。
これは高い！！高すぎる！！
セメからコトヌーは、道のりとしては車で30分ほど。
ナイジェリア市内からセメまで2時間以上かかったのに、700円でしたよ。
The taxi driver asked us 25000CFA, 50$. That sucked. Too much expensive.
It would take just 30 min from Seme to Cotonou by car, however, it costed only 5$ from Nigeria City to Seme which was 2 hour drive.
交渉開始！
すぐ20000CFAまで下げてきたが、20000CFAからドライバーが全く折れない
Start negotiation!
He easily bargained to 20000CFA though, he did not concede at all in negotiations about that price.
これはですね、、案内人、ドライバー、タクシーが組織立っていて、この国境付近一帯のタクシー価格がおおよそ固定されてしまっているのです。
This is because there was a big organization-like community constructed by guides, drivers, and taxis, and they offered fixed transportation prices.

国境付近のタクシーは大概このように管理されている
The “guide” guy from Nigeria suggests a taxi. Then, the taxi driver gives margin to them. This is a business structure here.
そのため、激安でタクシー移動するのは難しいでしょう。
なかなか交渉が決まらない、金額合意はしてないが、埒が開かないので出発します。車内で交渉や！
This is why negotiation is super tough here. We never agreed to the negotiation though, we got in the car to talk more.
SIMカードもこの国境付近では手に入らず、他に交通手段が見つけられなかったです
乗合のバスをうまく見つければもっと安い？はず！
No SIM or no public transportation here. We couldn’t find other options.
いざ出発するとき、ナイジェリアからついてきてドライバーを紹介した兄ちゃんたちが案内料を要求してくる。
お決まりのやつきました。。いや、案内頼んでないからね！
When we took a taxi, guided guys from Nigeria asked us the money for a guide!! Yeah, here it comes. I never asked you to guide me…
車のドアが閉まらないように腕を車内に入れてきます！強引んー！
They put their arm into the car! That’s a forcefull way!
いやー頼んでないんだよなあーーーー
あーあーうざいなあー
「2000CFAくれ！！」
めちゃ必死です
Wow amazing annoying.
They were shouting “Give me 2000CFA!!!”
頭抱えちゃうぜええ
It’s completely overwhelming..
さらには駐車場の兄ちゃんも
「駐車場代だ！！」みたいなノリで迫ってきます
発進しようとしてる車の窓に身体を捩じ込んでくる必死さ
Moreover, the guy working at the parking also requested “Give me a parking fee!!”
They even put their body through the window, how desperate!!
とりあえず1人に1000CFA払い、「これで勘弁してくれ！」といいましたが
貰ってない人間がまだまだ要求してくる。
あ、誰かがもらったお金は分け合わないみたいね？笑
For now, I paid 1000CFA to one guy and said “Please let this be enough!”
Other guys who haven’t got money persistently asked for it!!!
Ok. You guys don’t share that money, huh?
ドライバーはドライバーで全く発進できないので、
現地民同士での言い争いが勃発！
The driver just started fighting with the guys surrounding the taxi to depart!
ド: あと1000CFA払えよ！
私: やだ
ド: もう良いだろ！！お前ら
兄: いやあだめだ！！！
Driver: 1000CFA more!
ME: NO!
Driver: Hey give it up.
Guy: Nooooo! I need money!!
案内役、駐車場役、ドライバー、紹介し合うように組織立っていて知り合いのはずだがライバルでもある。
いかに「自分」が儲けるか、がまず大事なよう。
組織立ってるのか、立っていないないのか、わからんでこれ！
The driver, guide, and parking staff should be the same group though, it seemed not.
The most important thing is how to maximize personal gain.
本当に兄ちゃんたちがしつこいので
ドライバーは、半ば強引に車を発進させて同業者たちを振り落とす！笑
アクション映画の世界すぎる。生きるのに必死すぎだろ・・・
Since guys never let go of the car, the driver forcefully accelerated the car to shake off his friends! Too much like an action movie.
Finally, we’re off. やっと出発
やっっっっっとのこさ、ベナンは海岸の街コトヌーへ向かいます
Heading to Cotonou, a seaside town, from the border.
まず、コトヌーにあるホテルを目的地として伝えましたが、ドライバーに行き先が詳細には伝わってません。
First, I told the driver the destination, our hotel, he completely didn’t know the exact place.
カーナビ付いてませんから、まずは何となく街方面に向かいます。
There was no car navigation, so just headed for the city side.
街には30分ほどで到着！
Arrived in the town in 30 min!
ただ、ドライバーは詳細な場所分かってないので、どうするかなと思っていると
However, the driver didn’t know the location,,,
スイスイ街を進んで、、、
勝手に全然違う自分が知ってるホテルに連れてきてくれました。
So he smoothly drove through the streets and took me to a hotel that he knew.
・・・んどうした？
What has happened?
車を降りてフロントまで行き、ここだろ？ここ良いホテルだから予約しなよ、と言ってくる。
He brought us to the hotel front and said “Here. This is a nice hotel too :)”
…うざい！笑 適当すぎる！！
その考え方嫌いだわあー、人間ができてないよな。舐められすぎてる
Fu◯k! How annoying you are!!
いやあり得ないだろお前、とここら辺からドライバーに対しては常にキレ気味対応です
ホテルのフロントでwifiをお借りし、詳細な場所を調べる。
No way, that’s impossible. I was really getting annoyed.
We borrowed WIFI at the hotel and searched for the right hotel location.
再度車に乗り込み移動！
ただ地図もよくできてないし、カーナビはないので、
交差点で止まったときに、細かい路地をドライバーが現地民に聞き、なんとか宿に到着。
いやあ、タクシー乗るだけで一苦労だねこれは。
Got in the car and moved again!
The map wasn’t good so we still had to ask people in the street to know the exact location.
Wow, that was so tough even just taking a taxi.
Arrived at the hotel 宿に着きましたー
すごく落ち着いた街にある素敵な宿だ！
That looked super nice hotel in a very calm town.
さあ支払いだが、
ドライバー: 20000CFA VS 私: 10000CFA
で双方譲らない！！！
For the payment, neither side backed down!!
Driver: 20000CFA vs ME: 10000CFA
車停めて、永遠に交渉してます。
その様子を警備員も見守る。
We were negotiating forever, even after we parked the car.
金額合意したかどうかをひたすらに争う。。
埒が開かないので10000CFAを渡そうとするも、ドライバーさん頑なに受け取ろうとしません。これでも高すぎるんですよ。
お金を渡しながら我々はホテルの中に入るも、中まで付いてきます。。なかなかしつこいぞコイツは。
Persistently fight the agreed price. Though I tried to give 10000CFA, but he refused to accept it. He followed me even into the hotel.
I’m very sure this price is still too expensive.
早くチェックインしたいのよ！！検問から国境からタクシーから、、疲れすぎなのよ今日！！笑
God. Please let me check in! Super tired today because of the border, inspection, and taxi!!!
結局ホテルのオーナーも巻き込み！？「空港や国境から街までは、プライベートタクシーならあり得る値段かもね」ということで、こちらが折れて、支払いました。
30カ国以上旅してたくさん交渉してきましたが、初めてほぼ相手の言い値で折れました。
At last, including the owner of the hotel, we paid that price. The price might be possible if it is from the airport or border.
This was the first time I paid the amount they asked for from 30 countries traveling.
今回の金額、平均月収が80000CFAのベナンでは、おおよそ1週間分くらいの給料です。なかなかぼったくるじゃない〜
The price is about the same as one week’s salary in Benin. That’s quite a rip-off.
ただ、このしぶとさは金額が不足すると本当に元締めにやられちゃうんでしょうね、
空港や国境は元締めみたいなものが組織的に仕切っていて、相場を跳ね上げているのでしょう。
With this stubbornness, I guess he really would get killed by the boss if the taxi fee was not enough. Airports and borders were managed by a central organization that systematically controlled and drove up prices.
これじゃあ観光客来ないよーー？？
オーナーも「だからこの国は発展しないんだ」と言ってました
This won’t attract any tourists!! It is hindering the country’s development.
The owner said so also.
交渉時間 乗車前：30分、乗車後：90分
乗車時間：30分
Negotiation time: Before getting the taxi 30 min, After that 90 min
Taxi travel time: 30 min
最後にドライバーから、
「そのしつこさ、お前はまるでアフリカ人だよ」
と言われ、握手ハグしてバイバイしました
At last, the driver told me “You are African. Strong persistent.”, and hugged me.
戦友だよね。もう。 “Good friend” we are.
オーナーは、
「お疲れ様、さてと、涼しいとこでコーラだろ？」
と最高のウェルカムしてくれました。
The owner welcomed us gratefully with Coke.
“Good job, now let’s go somewhere cool and have a coke, right? :)”
ベナンも楽しそうだぞ？ Benin should be FUN.
