じーつーは、9月からオーロラシーズンなのです。オーロラは、太陽風と地球の磁場の衝突による現象、ですのでオーロラの強さに季節は関係ないのです。
Actually, the aurora season starts in September. Auroras are caused by collisions between the solar wind and the Earth’s magnetic field, so their strength isn’t affected by the season.
ノルウェーでのオーロラ体験記、夏 です。

北欧にてオーロラ観測と聞くと、まず挙がるのはノルウェーのトロムソ
When people talk about watching the aurora in Northern Europe, the first place that comes up is Tromsø, Norway.
北極圏にありながら、都市部と自然が共存する美しい都市です。
A beautiful city where nature and the city live together, right inside the Arctic Circle.
なんでトロムソ？ Why Tromsø?
オーロラ観測地としては、空港からのアクセスが良い（市街地まで5km、ヨーロッパ主要都市からの直行便も豊富）とか、観光インフラが整っているとか、
北極圏の大都市トロムソの強みはたくさんありますが、、、
It is super easy to get to and has great tourism facilities and well-organized though,
なんと言ってもトロムソは、オーロラとフィヨルド、が一緒に楽しめる！
You can enjoy both the aurora and the fjords in Tromsø!
フィヨルド ＝ 氷河が削った山の谷に海水が入り込んだ地形
規模が大きすぎて一見湖っぽいですが、紛れもないフィヨルドです。
A fjord is a valley carved by glaciers, filled with seawater. They look kind of like huge lakes, but they’re real fjords.
両側が切り立った崖のようになっており、
ノルウェーの海岸線には数百ものフィヨルドが連なっています。
Steep cliffs rise on both sides, and along Norway’s coast there are hundreds of fjords lined up.
指の先にあるのが、Ersfjord（エルスフィヨルド）。ぶち抜き15 km続いてます。
The one on the top of the finger is Ersfjord, stretching about 15 km long.
なんで9月？ Why September?
明るさと暗さのバランスがちょうど良い Right balance between light and darkness
9月中旬のトロムソは、夕方の20時ごろまで太陽が顔を出しつつ、
夜にはしっかりとした暗さが訪れます。
一度のオーロラツアーで「明るい自然を堪能し、夜はオーロラも観れる」という二度おいしいやつ
In mid-September, Tromsø still gets sunshine until around 8 p.m., but it also gets dark enough at night to see the aurora clearly.
So, we can enjoy the bright beautiful nature and see the aurora at night – two in one!

トナカイに出会いました！！！ すげええええ！！野生のトナカイ！ふつーにいるんや！
I met a reindeer!! Cool!! The wild one was just walking around!
そして動かない！！！ And it didn’t move, at all.

クラクションなどもってのほか、道路の真ん中に陣取って動かないからと言って、どかしてはならんのです。退くまで待つ笑
みんなちゃんと守ってるんでしょうね、まったく車に動じないトナさん。かっこよすぎました。
In Norway, there’s even a law that says you must not scare reindeer. You can’t honk your horn or try to push them off the road. Just wait until they decide to move.
People really follow that rule, so the reindeer don’t mind cars at all and are super chill.

and yes, we can find reindeer jerly. Just saying.
フィヨルドも美しいし、フィヨルドに沈む夕日も美しい。
The fjords are beautiful and so are the sunsets over them.
こういう景色をオーロラツアー中に見て回れるのは昼が長い、そして雪がなくアクセスがよい夏の特権です。
That’s one of the best things about visiting in September, when there’s little snow and the days are long.
気温がマイルド Gentle weather
9月の平均気温は、最高で約10℃、最低で5℃ほど。
真冬の氷点下に比べるとかなり過ごしやすく、北極圏なのに軽めの装備で十分でした。
冬は何時間も外でオーロラ待ちするのは正直かなり辛いですが、夏は全く問題なし。
「オーロラ初心者にもやさしい季節」です
In September, the average high is around10℃, and the low is about 5℃.
That’s pretty mild compared to the freezing winter. Even though you’re in the Arctic, you don’t need heavy winter gear.
In winter, waiting for the aurora for hours can be tough, but in September, it’s totally fine — perfect for aurora beginners!
混雑がない No crowds
9月は観光ピーク前なので、観光客めっちゃ少なかったです。真夏の白夜観光か真冬のオーロラ観光がハイシーズンとなるので谷間の時期なんですね。
September is before the peak tourist season, so there were so few people.
The busiest times are in midsummer (for the midnight sun) and in midwinter (for aurora season), so September is kind of a quiet “in-between” time.
冬は街にも人が溢れ混雑、道はオーロラの観光バスで渋滞するらしい。。
これ意外と良くて、自由度が高くなって、ゆっくり野生のトナカイが見れたり、オーロラハンティングに最適な場所を他グループに邪魔されずに見つけたりできる！ シンプルにツアーのクオリティがかなり高まる！
That turned out to be great fewer people means more freedom to explore,
more time to watch wild reindeer, and no crowds blocking your view during aurora hunting. The quality of the tour felt much higher because of that!
晴天率が高い Fewer clouds
夏場は白夜になるので、オーロラを観測できません。よって、9月から「オーロラハンティング」が本格化する。多くのオーロラツアーは、9月からツアー開始してました。
You can’t see the aurora during summer because of the midnight sun, so the aurora season starts in September. Most aurora tours begin around this time.
【利用したツアー】18時から5～7時間。オーロラ次第！ ３万円／人、キャンプファイヤーとディナー付き、さらにトイレ付なのはこのツアー会社唯一。おススメでした
My tour: started at 6 p.m., lasted 5–7 hours (depending on the aurora),
cost around ¥30,000 per person, and included dinner, a campfire, and even a toilet (rare for tours like this!). Totally worth it!

ただし基本的にトロムソの空はよく曇ります。。
（海洋性気候のトロムソ🇳🇴やレイキャビク🇮🇸は雲が多く、晴天率の高いイエローナイフ🇨🇦やキルナ🇸🇪と比べると、天候の運に左右されやすい）
That said, Tromsø’s sky can often be cloudy.
Because of its coastal climate, it’s cloudier than places like Yellowknife or Kiruna.
12月～2月は80％にもなる曇天率ですが、夏終わりの9月は60％と、一年の中でも晴天割合が高い
But. While the cloud rate can be as high as 80% in winter (Dec–Feb),
in September it drops to about 60%, which is one of the clearest times of the year.

オーロラ出現率がかなり高いトロムソで、冬場よりは雲のない空を見ることができるはず！
So we have a good chance to catch the aurora with fewer clouds.
まあ結局ねえ、雲のない場所を探すために、北極海の海岸に行ったり、スウェーデンやフィンランドとの国境側に行ったり、めっっっっっちゃドライブするので 超曇天、大雨でない限り、雲の心配はそこまでしなくてもよいかと思われます。
And honestly, even if it’s cloudy, the guides drive a lot — sometimes all the way to the Arctic coast or toward the Swedish border, so unless it’s super stormy, you’ll probably find a clear spot somewhere.
