ネット環境を確保しましょう。

Get the internet first.

空港には通信会社のブースがあり、SIMカードをゲットすることができます。

ギガ数を選べるプリペイド型で、1週間の滞在なら数百円分くらいで十分でしょう、安いです。

There was a techno communication company from which we could get SIM cards.

That card is the prepaid type with various giga and cheap enough like a few dollars per week.

これが現地ナイジェリア人と初コミュニケーション！

汚職に塗れた国家公務員とは相反して、とっても丁寧です、優しく説明してくれます。

This was the first time to communicate with local Nigerians!
They were so polite and kind in explaining, completely different from national airport staff with corrupt.

まあ、めっちゃインスタしながらお仕事してたけど。

Well,, actually they worked with enjoying Instagram.

ナイジェリアの公用語は英語です。

ただめちゃくちゃクセが強い！なかなかなんて言っているか解読不明だけど、少なくともアフリカでも英語が通じるのはでかい！

The official language of Nigeria is English.

However, Nigerians have a strong dialect, and it can be difficult to understand right away. Still, being able to communicate in English is very helpful.

ただ作業完了までかなり待つね。笑

接続がうまく行かず、1時間経っちゃってます。

By the way, it was going soooo slowy with checking the connection again and again.  More than 1 hour had passed.

めっちゃ楽しんでそうじゃないとダメなの？！笑

TAXI

このSIMカード作成待ちの時間にホテルまでのタクシー交渉をします。

Began negotiating the taxi price to the hotel while waiting for SIM.

ラゴス空港でのタクシーシステムは、組織的になっていて距離に応じて大方の値段が決まっています。

街中ではUverなどの配車アプリは全然使えます！が、空港のエリアに入るのにお金がかかったりするのと、その簡便さから空港発のタクシーはこのように管理されていました。

The appropriate price for the taxi from airport is already set depend on the destination by organized taxi systems.

Uver is well available in central town though, it was not useful for the airport area because of additional payment and the taxi was organized.

「どこ行きたいんだいい？」

体重が100kgくらいあるおばちゃんがこの空港の元締めのようです。

”so where do you want to go?”

The woman, who weighs around 100kg, seemed to be the boss of a taxi organization in this airport. 

宿は空港からほど近く、大体3、4 kmのところにあります。さあ、いくらくらいでしょうか。

Our hotel was 3, 4 km from the airport.  Well how much will the price be??

おばちゃんからの提示は15000ナイラ、、1500円です。

高い！

大体ナイジェリアタクシー相場は、距離的には3000ナイラと、聞いているよ！

The boss woman proposed 15000 Naira (15 $).

That’s expensive.   I had heard the general price could be 3000 Naira for this distance!

もちろん吹っ掛けられているのは通常運転ですので、値下げ交渉に入ります。

「明日からの旅でも御社のタクシー使うから」とか言っておばちゃんに値切ってもらいます。

（まあ、明日からは多分使わないよなあ、、、と思いながら）

「わかった。これが私の番号だ、ここに電話しな。」と元締めの番号をもらいます。

Of course, they tried to cheat us, so I negotiated to reduce that price.

“I will use your taxi tomorrow, so could you?.”

I was sure I won’t use this taxi again though..

“Alright, here is my number.  Contact me.”  I got the number of the boss.

結局15000ナイラから10000ナイラまで値下げになりました。

ただこれが限界だった。。　

Finally, we got a discount for 10000 from 15000 Naira.

but this was all I could do.

やたら「最近はガソリンも値段が上がってしまってさあ、ギリギリなんだよ！数年前とは違うんだ」

と言われました。

She kept saying, ‘Recently, the price of gasoline has gone up, and it’s tough, I’m barely making it!   It’s not like a few years ago.”

組織的にタクシーを管理されると、価格競争が生まれない、値段交渉ができないのが痛いですね。

空港のようなタクシーに乗るしかない場所だと、このようなシステムになっていることが西アフリカでは多かったです。

It was really difficult to negotiate the taxi price if there was no free price competition.

I found this kind of organized taxi system in many places like airports which don’t have various transportation choices.

ただそのおかげで、個人タクシーのドライバーに「タクシー！タクシー！」と寄ってたかって人だかりができることはありませんでした。

Fortunately, that system eliminated individual taxi drivers who came over and shouted  “HEY!! TAXI!! TAXI!!”

こんな感じで、空港の出口にはハイエナのようなドライバーはまったくいません。

Like this, there were no hyena-like drives at the exit.

さあ、空港の外に出ます。ついに、、、！！！

賄賂交渉、SIMカード作成でかなり時間かかりました、

着陸してから2時間以上は優に超えています笑

Fiiiiinnnaaaalllyyy,,,  I could exit this airport!

It took time like more than 2 hours from landing, to ordering SIM cards and mainly fighting with bribes.

タクシー乗り場までオーガナイザーのおばちゃんが連れてきてくれます。そして紙に交渉した値段を書いてドライバーに渡すのです。

The boss brought us to the taxi stand and passed the paper with the price we negotiated to, the driver.

おおー、なんか安心システムやね。

さて、乗車。

Let’s get in the taxi.

安定のTOYOTAに乗り込む。ほんとどこにでもあるなあ

TOYOTA, we can find everywhere in the world.

空港をでるとすぐ緑が広がります。　

When we exit the airport, we immediately see a vast expanse of greenery.

目的地である宿は空港からも近いので、安心して乗っていたら、ドライバーがめっちゃ迷いながら運転してます。

もちろん車にカーナビはないのだが。。

The hotel, which is our destination, was close to the airport, so I got in the car with a calm miind. However, the driver is driving while clearly getting very lost.

えっ！！場所知らないの！？

Hah?!  You don’t know the place??  Without any navigation??

おもむろに車を停車。

ん？どした？

そう思ったら、窓から通行人に話しかけます。

通行人もホテル名まで知っておらず、「んーあっちじゃね？」

ということで徐々に近づいていきます。

The drive suddenly stopped the car.

Then, he started talking to a passerby through the window.   The passerby didn’t even know the hotel name, but said, ‘Hmm, I think it’s over there.’

And so, we gradually got closer.

こんな感じで、道路の真ん中で、止まっている車の窓に首突っ込んで喋る現地人の様子がよく見れます。

基本こちらのタクシーは目的地近くまで行ってからの詳細は、その地域にいる現地民に聞くスタイルらしい。

In Nigeria, we can see a situation like this.   Cars sometimes stop at the street, and locals talk through the window.

Taxi here basically heads to the destination and asks locals there for the detailed place.

これはまさに、現地民がカーナビの役割を担っているのです。

イイねえ、助け合いいいいいい！

この光景を見ていると、何だか人間って助け合いだよね、こうだよね、いいよねっ、という気分になります

The local passerby is actually working as car navigation. 

I LIKE THIS!!   When I saw this situation, I felt like this is what humans really need.

ホテル街に入っていくと流石に入り組んできます。

どこ曲がるんだろ、、、？？ということなので

現地のタクシー運転手に、観光客の私がGoogle mapを使って、道案内。

Arriving near our hotel, the road was getting a little bit complicated.

Driver “(where should I turn to… ?)”

I, an absolute stranger here, guided the driver by using Google Maps!  Why didn’t he have it??

そして、とうちゃああああーく！

現金支払い。貨幣の単位が小さく大量に札があり、通貨の感覚もまだ慣れてないので、ワタワタしましたが無事交渉通りの10000ナイラで支払完了です。

We got to the hotel finally and safely!!

Cash payment that was.  As per the agreement, I successfully completed the payment of 10000 Naira.  The currency denomination was soooo low that I handed over a large number of bills in a little bit of panic.

The hotel guard opened a huge gate for us.  It was a pretty strict security, which showed the insecurity in the surrounding area though..

It seemed like our travel started without any trouble,, I had an unbelievable problem here..

携帯がない！　NO Phone!!

なんと入国直後速攻で無くしてしまいました

タクシーでは使っていたので、

携帯をタクシーに忘れてしまったということになります笑

FuOk meeee!!   I lost my phone immediately after arriving in the country.

As using my phone in the taxi, I should lost it in the taxt..

やばすぎる！これから2週間西アフリカ携帯なしは無理だぞこれ。日本に帰ってからのダメージもでかいが、、！

携帯ないと、どこにも移動もできないし、そもそも何も調べられない！

Oh my goodness!!!!!    I can’t go through this 2 weeks travel to West Africa without a phone, even after going back to Japan!!

I can’t do anything and go anywhere without a phone, or searching.

海外というだけで望み薄いのに、さらにはアフリカのタクシーで携帯無くしたらもう絶望ですよ。

連絡先知らねえし。。絶望。

There’s little hope just because it happened overseas, even worse it was in a taxi in Africa, HOPELESS.

“I don’t know his contact information.”

ショックを通り越して呆然としていたら、、思い出します。あ、、

そういえば、、タクシー元締めおばちゃんの電話番号あったなあ。。

When I got over the shock and was dumbfounded… I found one.

There was the phone number of the boss who ran the taxi.

交渉時に貰った絶対使わないと思ってた番号、がここで役に立つ！

The number whom I thought completely useless was helpful!!

一か八か、、というかそこにしか希望はないので

藁にもすがる思いでホテルのフロントの方に電話をかけてもらうことに。

I know there was hardly any expectation though, this was the only hope for me. Let the hotel front call there.

フロントのナイジェリアも心配して快諾してくれました！優しい、ありがたい！！！

The front desk staff, Nigerians, also worried about it and called.   What kind of people are here!!!!

でも無理だよなあ普通に。

カーナビすらない状況、タクシーも動き回ってるし、そもそもどのタクシーの話やねん、ってなるし

But it’s definitely not possible. I’m sure.

There was no car navigation system, and taxis were moving around, so they were not sure which taxi to talk about in the first place.

もしタクシーにあったとしても、、

散々交渉時に、燃料が高いやら、規制があるやらでタクシーの値段上がってるんだと言い高値を請求してきたあのおばさん元締めが、わざわざ持ってきてくれるか？

If they found my phone in the taxi, the boss, who kept saying during negotiations that the taxi fare had gone up due to high fuel prices and regulations, must not bring it here!

さらには薄給ドライバーにとっては、絶対iPhoneを売りに出した方が良いし

Furthermore, it was better to sell the phone immediately for the poor driver.

はあああああぁ、携帯なくしたかああ、携帯ないと何もできない、調べられないし連絡も取れない、終わった。。。

Ohhhhhhh my god.   There was no hope!   It’s over!   I can’t do anything without my phone in Nigeria..

とりあえずアフリカのテレビをみながら放心状態でぼーっとする

For now, I just zone out and relax while watching African TV.

そして小一時間後

フロントから電話が。

One hour later,,  I got a call from the hotel front.

お？？何か進展があったか？！

Is there any progress?!

フロントに走る！

I ran to the front desk!!

そして、、

そこにはなんとあのドライバーが！

and then, I found THAT driver!

からのこう！！

So here,,,, what I would DO!!

まじか！！

このドライバー、我々をホテルで降ろしたのちすぐ空港に戻っていたようです

おばさん元締めの指示により、なんとまた空港から戻ってきてくれました！！

Unbelievable!! This driver directly returned to the airport after dropping us off at the hotel.

Then, following the instructions from the boss, he actually came back from the airport again!

あんなにガソリン代が、って言ってたのにまさかの2往復させてしまった！笑

しかもあのドライバーちゃんと道覚えてたんだね

They really worried about fuel cost so much though, I let the taxi make two round trips unexpectedly!! Haha

Surprisingly, the driver remembered this route after just one trip.

おいおいおい、、素晴らしすぎるぞナイジェリア！！優しすぎるではないか！！

Wait,, Whoa…   This is amazing, Nigeria!!   How unbelievably kind!

空港での汚職に塗れまくっていた悪い印象が一気に吹き飛びました！

I destroyed the bad impression of the corrupt airport completely!

I LOVE NIGERIA!!!!!!!!!

日本でも携帯無くすなんてなかなかないのに、なぜナイジェリアで、、？と思いますが、いくつかの不運な偶然が重なってしまっていたようです

・SIMカードを入れ替えた直後に乗車したため、摩擦のある携帯カバーを外したままにしており、携帯がツルツルといつもと違う感覚で滑りやすい

・ナイラの通貨価値が低すぎて、タクシー支払いの時に大量の札を数える方に集中してしまった

など、普段とは異なる状況下で携帯がするりと座席下に落ちていたよう。いやバックの中入れとけよ、、と思いましたが、そうか

・ドライバーがホテルの場所知らんから。。経路案内のために、携帯を車内で使っていたんだ

Why did I lose my phone in Nigeria, even not in Japan? I guess like a series of bad luck events,,

– Slipperly phone, I took off the phone cover to insert SIM card.

– Focused on counting too many bills, Naira, during the taxi payment.

The above unusual situation could be a reason why my phone fell out of my hand.  I had to have my phone in my hand, not in a bag, because,,

– The driver needed the map!

彼らには、私からしっかりと、「賄賂」、、もとい「謝礼」をお渡しさせていただきました。

Anyway, I gave them a PROPER bribe, maybe a first in Nigeria’s history.

せっかく空港で頑張って、賄賂請求から逃れたのに、、その比にならないお金が吹き飛びました…何してんねん！！！

I don’t know why I worked so hard at the airport to avoid the bribe.   The money which is incompatible with the bribe just VANISHED!

まあこんな素敵な国だと気づかせてくれた、プライスレスすぎる体験に感謝！

Well, that was a priceless experiment that made me realize how awesome this country is!
