トラム、とおっきな馬が。。北欧っぽさを感じる

Trams glide through the streets, and bronze horses stand tall that defines the Nordic vibe.

中世からはスウェーデン王国に1800年ごろまで長らく統治されその後はロシアの一部に、実は独立は1917年で、新しい国なんですねえ

Historically, Finland was ruled by Sweden for centuries until 1809, then became part of the Russian Empire, and finally gained independence in 1917 — it’s a surprisingly young nation.

スウェーデン時代のヘルシンキ（1550〜1809）は

ほとんど木造。石造りはスオメンリンナ要塞くらい。市街地のほとんどは火災や戦争で焼失。

During the Swedish era, most of Helsinki was made of wood —
and repeated fires and wars left little standing except for the Suomenlinna Fortress.

その後、ロシア時代（1809〜1917）で一変

ロシア人建築家がロシア皇帝の命で、ヘルシンキ全体を「帝都らしい新古典主義都市」として設計。

Under Russian rule, everything changed — the reconstruction of Helsinki as a neoclassical capital.

スウェーデンに比べると、石畳が多く、自転車、LUUPは走りにくくて少し数は少ない印象ですね。

We have more stone streets compared to Sweden, seems tough for biking.

こういう大聖堂や石畳の道路は、ロシア時代の都市再建の象徴。

The grand cathedrals and stone streets we see today are from that vision.

現在の“いかにも古いヨーロッパ風”に見えるヘルシンキの街並みは
実はスウェーデンではなくロシア帝国時代の都市計画の産物なんです。

So, the “old European charm” of Helsinki actually comes from the Russian Empire, not Sweden.

この海岸線になじむような形状のサウナ小屋から、流れるようにバルト海へ入り込める。

日本だと過剰なルールでがんじがらめになり、なかなか実現しなさそうな施設です。

でベトベトしないししょっぱくないです。バルト海は塩分がとても低い。

Because so much freshwater flows in, its salinity is just one-third of the Mediterranean’s.
