コートジボワールは首都アビジャン、

1時間のタクシー道中のはずが、なぜか、8時間になる国です。

本当に、ほんっとーーーーーに！衝撃を受けました。

Côte d’Ivoire, Abidjan, is a country where a journey that should take an hour by taxi somehow ends up taking eight hours.

Honestly, I was absolutely, utterly shocked!

空港   Airport

帰ってきました英語が通じない国　　Back to a Country Where English Doesn’t Work

白人がちらほらいる！！

ガーナにつづいてコートジボワールの空港でもwifi繋がった

Wow, I saw some white people here and there!!
At the airport in Côte d’Ivoire, like in Ghana, I could connect to wifi.

とっても静かな入国審査を経て、入国。

多くの窓口が開かれていましたが全て整然としている

スタッフもギャーギャーさわいでない。声も小さくとっても静か

After a very quiet immigration check, I entered the country.
Many counters were open, but everything was calm.
The staff were not shouting, voices were small, very peaceful.

大声で会話したりするナイジェリア感はありませんでした。

Not like the loud Nigeria feeling.

また、はじめてペットボトル飲む黒人を発見！

基本黒人は200mlくらいの袋に入った水を飲んでたんで、かなり珍しい。

リッチ、ということが言えそうです

And for the first time, I saw a black person drinking from a plastic bottle!
Normally they drink 200ml “bag water,” so this was rare.
Maybe they are rich.

第一印象としては、人が優しい！！！

ただの空港にいた人が「何を探してるんだ？」と声をかけて換金なら換金所に連れてってくれ、SIMカードなら担当者を呼んでくれる

First Impressions, People are so kind!!!

Even at the airport, strangers asked, “What are you looking for?”
They took me to the money exchange if I needed, or called a SIM card seller.

タクシードライバーも、

みんなで協力して英語喋れる現地人を連れてきたり

行き先までの向かい方をみんなで相談しあったり、かなり人が良い印象です

Taxi drivers also helped each other, brought locals who could speak English,
and discussed together how to go to my place.
Very good people!

交通手段  Transportation

交通手段として、よく使われている配車アプリがYANGOです

The popular ride app here is Yango.

Uverもありますがあまり普及してないようです、空港の近くにもほとんど車がいませんでした。

Yangoを使いましょう！もしくは、空港にいるドライバーと直接交渉でも良いでしょう

Uber also exists but not many cars, even near the airport.  So use Yango, or just talk to drivers at the airport.

ただ、YANGOもそんなには優れてなく、

But Yango is not perfect.

行き先指定して配車してから結局、「で、どこ行くの？」って聞かれたんで

実態はほぼタクシードライバーを呼ぶためだけのアプリですね。なんでわからないの？笑

（何人かに1人はちゃんと目的地もすでに共有されていてスムーズに乗り降りできました！）

I chose a destination on the app, but the driver still asked, “So, where are you going?” Haha.
(It worked smoothly only with some drivers.)

あと、支払い方法として日本のクレジットカードが登録できず、現金支払いするしかなかったので要注意です。

Also, my Japanese credit card didn’t work.  So I had to pay by cash. Be careful!

ここコートジボワールですが、

イスラム教徒が多く、彼らのタクシーにのると

ずっとコーランが流れてます。たまにコーランラジオに併せて唱えまくってるドライバーもいました

Many people here are Muslim.  In their taxis, Qur’an radio keeps playing.
Some drivers even sing along loudly.

コートジボワールはなぜかSUZUKIばっかりでした。

早速YANGOで配車したSUZUKIに乗り込み、宿に移動！

Also, for some reason, many taxis are SUZUKI.  I rode a Suzuki via Yango to my hotel.

あいにくの悪天候、超悪天候！！   But then… heavy rain!!

雨と雷がやばい

数分に一回は空の雲全体が明るくなるほど雷鳴轟いてます。

Thunder and lightning every few minutes.

あとで現地に住んでいる方に聞くと、コートジボワールでも警報が鳴るようなひどい雨だったそう

Later I heard it was a “warning-level” storm.

道路がプールです。排水できてません。

車に空調ないから窓が全面的に曇りまくっている、全く周りがみえない。

ドライバーが雑巾で拭きながら前方の視界だけ確保して運転です

Roads turned into swimming pools.   Cars had no aircon, so windows fogged up.
The driver wiped with a cloth to see the road.

順調に進んで見えたものの、事件が起こります

Soon, a big problem.

超渋滞　Super traffic jam

渋滞が、やばい   The traffic jam was terrible.

ほぼとまっていて数分に一回数メートル進む、という感じ

渋滞で止まりすぎてて、一応道路運転中なのに、普通に車から出て道端でトイレ行って戻ってくるドライバー

Cars moved only a few meters every few minutes.

Some drivers even got out, went to the roadside toilet, and came back.

本来は1時間で着く道なのにー！！！ゆうに1時間を超えている！！

Normally the way takes 1 hour, but now already much longer.

あと道路が動かなすぎるので、各車普通にエンジン止めてます

てゆうか寝てます。

爆睡です。後ろのクラクションでも起きず。運転席から横に倒れるようにドライバー寝てました。一応運転中だぞぅ？

Many cars stopped engines and drivers slept!
I saw one driver lying sideways in his seat, not waking up even with honks.

大使館みたいな公的な建物の近くでは銃をもった迷彩服の兵隊が道路上に立って交通整備してました。

なんか、おおごとになって来たぞ。渋滞ひどすぎて駆り出されたのでしょうか？

いや。。大事件なんだけど。

Near big buildings like embassies, soldiers with guns managed the road.

一方、交差点ではふつうのそこら辺にいた現地民が車の行き来をガイドしている

バスから降りてきた人やその場にいた人が、交差点の真ん中にいて議論しながら交通管理している、お前は行け、お前はストップで先にこっち行かせろ、、とか

渋滞ひどすぎて信号が機能してないんですね

At crossroads, normal locals came to guide cars, arguing who should go first.
Traffic lights didn’t work at all.

小さな学生を乗せたバスもこの渋滞にハマっている。。

お母さん心配するでこれ！

てか通勤とかどうするんだろ、こんなの毎日だったら定時間に合わないよね　

Even buses with small students were stuck.

Mothers must worry a lot.
If this is daily, how can people arrive at work on time?

さあ、空港から3時間   3 hours later,,,

全く車の流れがなくなり、

さすがにドライバーも発狂し始めます。ウーキーみたいに叫び始めます

After 3 hours from the airport, still no movement.
My driver started to scream like a monkey!

この道が2つのうちひとつのメイン道路らしく、他の経路は無さそうなのですが、

Uターンして、この全く動かない道を諦めます。

This road was one of only two main roads.  We turned around and tried small unknown paths.

その道が通れるかどうか現地民もわからない。

舗装もされていない道無き道をいく、、、いやこれどこに行ってんの？？

Even the locals don’t know if that road is passable.

Travelling along an unpaved, pathless track… hang on, where on earth are we going??

もうほぼ誘拐ですよ

人里離れた道なき道をゆく。

ここで降ろされたら終わります。

Almost kidnapping level.
If I was left here, I would be finished.

で行き止まりでまたUターン。。

But even those roads were blocked, so U-turn again.

渋滞中、周りのドライバーたちと

「どうやって進めばいいんだ！どの道なら行けるんだ！？」と激しく議論

Everyone asked other drivers, “What is the road ahead like?”

電子的な情報がなさすぎる！！笑   NO any electrical information!!

向かう方向から来たであろう車に、道路の状況を聞きまくります。

全ての情報が人伝い。

All info was only by word of mouth.

もうドライバーも限界なようで、、「空港で寝な、今日は」「道がブロックされてる」とか言ってきます！

おいふざけるなよ！笑

ホテルまでいけえぇぇぇぇえええい！！　と言い合う。

Our driver said,
“The road is blocked.  Just sleep at the airport today,”

“What!? No way!!”

I shouted  “Go to my hotel!!!”

空港まで戻っていく道を途中で目的地方向へ迂回。

混んで無さそうに見える道でした。

Finally, we found a side road.

希望が見える！！　宿に辿り着けるかも！

Hope appeared!

そしたらすぐ先の方で混んでるのが見えてきました。まったく動いてません。

But soon, got into another jam.

ああ、またか、

そこでドライバーがまさかの行動に。

Then my driver did something wild.

奇策　Crazy driving

なんと、、対向車線から車がちらほらきている逆走レーンに進入！

ドライバーはまさかの逆走を始めました！！すげえ発想！

He entered the opposite lane!

Yes, driving against traffic.　What a crazy idea.

しかし、、ほんとクレイジーなことに、逆走する車も増え、

逆走レーンもパンパンに埋まってきました。。。

But soon, that lane also filled with cars.

車多すぎんねん！！

もう夜の12時前ですよこれ。だれがこんなに移動してるんやあああ

By now it was almost midnight.
Why are so many people moving at night!?

飛行機には1時間乗って、空港から6時間経過@タクシー、、、

After 6 hours from airport, still in taxi…

6時間、車ん中！！！！？？？？

FOCK!!  6 hours in taxi!!!???

途中で降りることもできないし、手立てがない！！なにこれ、軟禁？？？！

I can’t even get off midway, and there’s nothing I can do!! What is this, house arrest???!

さあ、ここで疑問が出てきます

勝手に逆走しているということは、対向車線の車がいるはずですね、どうなっているのでしょうか？

And of course, opposite lane cars met face to face.
So, how do we go through this??

はい。ちゃんと立ち往生してます   Stuck again.

車から降りてきた人が交通整理してます。　People got out and tried to guide traffic.

このレーン逆走してるTOYOTAトラックはじめ多くの乗用車は、順走してきたトラックと真正面から対面してます。

This Toyota truck driving the wrong way down the lane, along with numerous other cars, is now facing head-on with the truck travelling in the correct direction.

これでこちらの車線でちゃんと順走してた車も超渋滞に！

まあ、いつかはこうなりますよね。

This has caused the vehicles travelling correctly to become stuck in a massive traffic jam too!　Well, it was bound to happen sooner or later, wasn’t it?

街の主要道路が環状線っぽくなっていて、一本しかない。ということは、逆走レーンも埋まることで、全てが完全にストップする！！！　もうっばか！笑

The main road through town is basically a ring road, and there’s only one of them. Which means if the wrong-way lane gets blocked too, everything comes to a complete standstill!!  Bloody hell!

ついに、 　Finally,,,

このあと少しずつ進み、特に事故でもなく普通に道路が開けてきて、なんとか宿に帰ることができました。

Step by step, the road opened.  Finally, I reached the hotel.

17:30に空港を出て

01:30に宿に着く

Left airport at 17:30,
Arrived hotel at 01:30.

ひどすぎますね。 Too cruel

どうやらこの大雨で土砂崩れが起こり、

車線が一つ潰れていたようです

にしても！にしても脆すぎる！！！

ありえないって！！！

Later I heard, the rain caused a landslide, one lane was gone.

Just one lane.

But still… too weak!!   Unbelievable!!

予想1時間のところを8時間、大丈夫かこの国。

A 1-hour trip became 8 hours.  This country shocked me.

ちなみに出国時空港へ向かう際、ホテルのスタッフには

「8時に着くには、6時に出た方がいいわね」と。

When I left Côte d’Ivoire later, hotel staff told me:
“If you want to arrive at 8:00, leave at 6:00.”

道のりの23kmですよ。普通に走ったら30分で着きますが、現地民も渋滞を鑑みかなり早く出ることをお勧めしてました。

これは経済発展しませんわ。

The distance is only 23km.  Normally 30 minutes.
But even locals know the jam is too crazy.

This way, economy cannot grow.
