Germany cherishes the atmosphere of the pre-war era.

フランクフルト  Frankfurt

高層ビルが立ち並ぶTHE現代都市な部分と、中世的な雰囲気を感じる部分が共存してました。

Frankfurt has both a modern side full of tall skyscrapers and an old side that still keeps the feeling of the Middle Ages.

フランクフルトでは、ドイツ屈指の治安の悪さと言われる中央駅周辺にて

The area around Frankfurt Central Station is known for having bad safety.

キマリまくって、昼間っからのたうち回りながら叫んでいるゾンビたちの間を掻き分け進み、

Even during the day, people high on drugs shout and move around wildly. Walking through them,,

いわゆるフードトラックなんでしょうが、5in1 みたいな効率さを持つソーセージ屋さんを横目に、

I saw a food truck selling sausages. The man there did everything by himself—taking orders, grilling, packing, and collecting money—all at the same time.

旧市街へ！    Headed to old town!

レーマー広場の木組みの家々（Fachwerkhäuser）

beautiful timber-framed houses in Römer Square.

人多い！！　昼間っから酒飲んでます。

It was full of tourists, drinking beer and laughing in the middle of the day.

フランクフルトの市庁舎「レーマー（Römer）」は、まさにドイツの象徴のような建物。

The Frankfurt City Hall, called “Römer,” is like a symbol of Germany itself.

これ市役所って。。。洒落てんなあ。  Such a beautiful city hall.

もともとは1405年に市庁舎として使われ始めたものですが、
第二次世界大戦の空襲で大破。
戦後に見事に復元され、今は中世の風貌をそのままに再現。

It was first built in 1405 but was badly damaged during World War II. After the war, it was beautifully rebuilt. The outside looks medieval, but the inside is surprisingly modern.

再建される時に「見た目の美しさに歴史の魂を宿す」という、ドイツ人の“再現美学”を感じます。

I felt the German sense of “aesthetic reconstruction”—keeping the soul of history in the beauty of appearance. They don’t just fix broken things; they bring them back with culture.

I loooooved that idea.  They have this playful sense of humor hidden everywhere.

スプレーで金ピカのバイクと、テープぐるぐるサドルチャリ

I even saw a gold-sprayed bike and another one wrapped in colorful tape.

どの街にも必ずある教会。
そしてどれもこれも、規模がデカい。

Every city in Germany has a church, and each one is unbelievably huge.

デカすぎんなあ

フランクフルトの教会も例に漏れず、天井の高さが尋常じゃない。
The church in Frankfurt was no exception—the ceiling was so high.

イェナ  Jena

やや小さめの科学・光学産業の町、Jena（イェナ）、光学機器メーカー、カール・ツァイス社の本拠地であり大きなプラネタリウムもあります。

Jena is a smaller city known for science and optics. It’s the home of the famous optical company Carl Zeiss and has the planetarium there.

そんなイェナですが、街歩いてたら普通に城なり、こんな塔なりに出会います

When you walk around Jena, you suddenly find castles and old towers in the streets.

いやあ、街に溶け込んでるねえ。歴史が。

History blends so naturally into everyday life here.

この町では、学会に参加していましたが、なんとお城が会場に！

When I attended a conference here, the venue was actually a castle!

ポスターなりプロジェクターなりを城に持ち込んで、、古きを大事にしとります。

They brought posters and projectors inside, giving presentations surrounded by stone walls and chandeliers. It was the perfect mix of old and new.

郊外　Suburbs

こんな歴史的な建物に囲まれた街中では、大きな家を建てるのは難しいようです。

そのためドイツでは、多くの人が郊外に「ガーデンハウス」と呼ばれる小さな別荘を持っているそう

Many Germans have a small house in the countryside called a “garden house.”

申し訳ないけど、初見はスラム街か何かか？！？！と思ってしまうくらいの密度。

When I first saw it, I thought it looked like a tiny village packed with houses.

そんなに広くないし、めっちゃ隣と隣接してるけど、、それでも自分の庭が欲しいらしい。

週末家族でBBQしたり、お花育てたりするんですって

The houses aren’t big, but people enjoy their own little gardens, having BBQs or growing flowers with families on weekends.

ヨーロッパスタイルですね。

That peaceful lifestyle really shows the German way of enjoying life.
